The South Australian Poll Hereford Association Inc. was formed in 1957.  Membership is available to financial members of the Australian Poll Hereford Society Limited that are resident in South Australia or the Northern Territory.  Associate membership is available to all other interested persons and companies.   

The objects of the South Australian Poll Hereford Association are  -:

• To promote Poll Hereford cattle

• To encourage the exhibition and/or sales of quality Poll Hereford cattle at Shows and/or Sales within South Australia and Australia .

• To foster the popularity and improvement of the Poll Hereford breed. 

• To work with other breed and industry bodies on the promotion of beef cattle.

• To liaise with the Australian Poll Hereford Society Ltd on matters concerning the constitution and administration of the Society.

....more weight means more dollars which ever way you look at it, and research shows that Herefords and Poll Herefords have more weight for age than most other breeds.

• high yield of saleable meat

.....higher carcase weight is part of the profit equation - a higher percentage of retail product from the carcase is another.  Herefords and Poll Herefords give you both, thereby benefiting the breeder and the butcher.

• acceptable meat quality

....eating quality is largely a combination of tenderness, flavour and juiciness...and Herefords and Poll Herefords are more than a match with other breeds for these important traits.

• efficiency on pasture

....in a country like Australia the ability to perform on pasture is perhaps the most basic requirement of your cattle program.  Hereford and Poll Hereford cattle have been selected for generations for optimum performance on pasture...and it shows.

• efficiency in the feedlot

....feedlotting is an integral part of the Australian beef industry, so it is important that your cattle perform in the feedlot as well as on pasture.  High Feedlot gain, high feed conversion efficiency, high percentage yield and acceptable levels of intra-muscular fat are key elements of feedlot profitability, and Herefords and Poll Herefords are proven performers in these traits.

• efficiency of the cow herd

....running your cow herd is the biggest cost of your beef enterprise any trade off in terms of cow carrying capacity or fertility, will more than offset any "premiums" you might pick up in the saleyards for their progeny.  The bottom line is...return per hectare - a combination of all the traits that have made Herefords and Poll Herefords so highly valued by practical cattlemen over the years.
