Events

The Association is actively involved in several major events on the South Australian Poll Hereford calendar each year - Naracoorte Show and Sale and Adelaide Royal Show.  In addition, the Association organises educational and technical seminars and workshops each year for members, commercial breeders and youth.

CGU Naracoorte Show and Sale

The South Australian Poll Hereford Association runs a multi-vendor Poll Hereford bull sale in February each year.  The CGU Naracoorte Show and Sale has been held annually since 1958.  In 2009 the sale joined forces with the European Breeds Naracoorte Bull Sale.

Approximately 35 Poll Hereford bulls are offered each year from leading South Australian and Victorian breeders.  Bulls are veterinary inspected for soundness with measurements taken for frame score, scrotal circumference, EMA and fat.  Most bulls offered have Breedplan figures and have an MN1 (or higher) status under the National Johnes Market Assurance Program. 

Catalogues are available in January each year from the Association or the agents Landmark and Elders.  Electronic catalogues can be viewed at the Australian Poll Hereford Society website.

2011 Sale Date - Friday 18th February 2011.  Entry forms available from the secretary in late October/early November 2010.

 

Adelaide Royal Show 

 

The Royal Adelaide Show is the major agricultural show in South Australia.  Held annually each year in the first week of September, the Royal Adelaide Show is well supported by the South Australian Poll Hereford Association and it's members with local and interstate exhibitors competing each year.

The Association strongly supports the Schools Led Steer and Carcase Competition at the show with many breeders making steers available to schools throughout SA.  

 
The SAPHA Annual General Meeting is held each year during the Show.

2010 Judging & AGM

Friday 3rd September

Judging from 9.30am - North Ring - 57 head entered.

Judge - Hilary O'Leary, Remolea, Qld.

AGM - 3pm in the Woodcutters Hospitality Suite.

Informal Dinner - Elephant & Castle from 7pm.  Please advise Rob Martin of attendance or see the microphone steward on Friday morning.

Led Steer Judging - Thursday 9th September from 9am.  30 Poll Hereford steers entered in 2010.
